James’s Personal Christian Testimony

I grew up in a blended family where nothing religious or spiritual was ever mentioned. At the age of 13, my stepdad and mother divorced. This was very difficult for me because my stepfather was like a father to me; he was all I ever knew. He and my younger brother moved across the country, and I didn’t see him again until I was in my 30’s. By this time, I had experienced abandonment from two individuals who were supposed to be father figures. However, the Lord brought another stepdad in my life that introduced us to Christ and my mother and I were saved and baptized. I have been a Christ-follower ever since and He has been with me every step of the way.

Following 25 years of marriage, I went through my own divorce. The experience was overwhelming, and the recovery and healing process was extremely challenging. However, the Lord sustained me during this difficult time and facilitated my ability to persevere through his presence, encouragement, and assistance when it felt impossible to continue (Psalm 3:3).

The experiences of divorce have been among the most challenging events in my life. I am familiar with the pain and difficulties associated with divorce, both as a child and as a spouse/parent. Upon reflection, I recognize the Lord’s presence during moments of perceived abandonment. I can see the way He worked and moved through these situations bringing me help, hope, and healing in ways only He can. If you struggle with abandonment, rejection, divorce recovery, or are experiencing marital issues then you are not alone. Christ has promised to never leave us nor forsake us (Matthew 28:20) and the Scriptures promise us victory through Christ (1 Cor 15:57). It is my prayer that you come to truly believe these truths and the many others found in Scripture so that you can find the help, hope, and healing that are only available in Christ.
